Litir Chumhdaigh

We note policies 14.20 to 14.23 and look forward to improving the tourism offering in a sustainable and sympathetic way into the future. We also look forward to the establishment of an off road cycle way from the Rail Trail to Uisneach referred to under policy 14.22 and to the erection of suitable signage around the county to identify the location of Uisneach.

Submission from David Clarke re: Loughnavalley As a Service Hub

We wish to make the following comments on the Draft County Development Plan 2021-2027. Please note our coments for the future development of the Hill of Uisneach and Loughnavalley village.

We welcome the help and cooperation afforded by the Council to our project.

Signature Project at Uisneach

As Uisneach matures as a nationally significant tourism destination we seek support for the development of a suitably themed signature Uisneach project adjacent to the site that will further attract and service the growing number of domestic and international tourists visiting this part of Westmeath.

Loughnavalley as a Service Hub

At less than a mile Loughnavalley is the principal settlement that can serve teh heritage site at Uisneach and is on the route for the vast majority of all visitors most of whom approach from the east.

Loughnavalley is within easy access on foot or by bike or park and ride facailities.

Loughnavalley has been associated with Uisneach for millenia and is the natural location for the provision of services in the nature of:-

Park & Ride facililties, car parking, restaurant facilities, craft opportunities, bicycle hospitality facilities, cycle route and walk way to Uisneach.

We believe a suitable planning status needs to be provided to the village to enable successful applications for development of facilities such as restaurant, craft facilities and general hospitality for the tourism offering.

We believe that Loughnavalley requires necessary supporting water and sewerage services to support the tourism development that we anticipate over the next 7 years.

Broadband

As the Uisneach project advances towards potential World Heritage Status, it requires urgent access to serviceable broadband which is not currently in our part of rural Westmeath. The lack of broadband is a serious limiting factor on the growth of tourism arising on Uisneach.

Yours sincerely,

David Clarke
