John-Hume

It is with deep sadness that Westmeath County Council acknowledges the passing of John Hume, former leader of the SDLP and Nobel laureate.
We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies at this time to his family, and to acknowledge the crucial role John played in bringing peace to the Island of Ireland.
An online Book of Condolence has been opened by Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Ken Glynn in memory of Mr. Hume and can be signed here.

Cllr. Ken Glynn, Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council said, “John Hume was a man of inclusion and peace, this country owes him so much thanks for all his great work.”

The Council will share these messages with the Hume family after we close the Book of Condolences on Tuesday, 18th of August.

The closing date has passed and submissions are no longer being accepted.
