PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF 3 NO. HOUSING UNITS AT AUBURN

HOUSE, NO. 36 CONNAUGHT ST, ATHLONE AND BIGMEADOW Td., ATHLONE, CO. WESTMEATH.

Notice is hereby given in accordance with the requirements of the above act and regulations, that Westmeath County Council proposes to the demolish the 2.5 storey existing extension and replacement construction of new 4 storey extension at the Protected Structure (RPS No. 27), Auburn House, No. 36 Connaught St, Athlone and Bigmeadow Td., Athlone, Co. Westmeath. The basement and part of the ground floor being incorporated into a duplex 2bed unit, with a 1 bed apartment unit on the 1st floor and a 1 bed apartment unit on the 2nd floor, and where possible repair and making good works to the roof, windows, walls and floors of the protected structure with the rear boundary walls to be retained and made good, derelict shed and dangerous structures to be removed and made good. The protected structure and the proposed works are in an Architectural Conservation Area and in a Zone of Archaeological Potential.

The development has been the subject of an Appropriate Assessment Screening in accordance with Article 6(3) of the EU Habitats Directive (Directive 92/43/EEC) and the Planning and Development Acts 2000 as amended. Westmeath County Council has concluded from a screening pursuant to the provisions of article 81A (5) that there is no real likelihood of significant effects on the environment arising from the proposed development and that an Environmental Impact Assessment is not required.

 

Plans and Particulars of the proposed development are available for inspection at https://consult.westmeathcoco.ie/en and can be inspected or purchased at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy at Westmeath County Council, Áras An Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar and at Athlone Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone, Co. Westmeath. from 9.30a.m. to 4.00p.m. each day, excluding weekends, bank holidays and Christmas closures, from Monday 1st December 2025 to Monday 5th January 2026.

Submissions and observations with respect to the proposed development may be made via the Council's consultation portal at https://consult.westmeathcoco.ie/en or a written submissions or observations in relation to the proposed development, may also be submitted to the: Administrative Officer, Planning Department, Aras an Chontae, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath to arrive not later 4.00pm on Friday 23rd January 2026.

Written submissions or observations received will form part of a statutory report to be presented to a meeting of Westmeath County Council and will form part of a public document. The information contained in submissions may be available for public inspection, to be published on the Council's website and available at the Council’s public counter. Submissions should be labelled: LAA 4 2025 No.36 Connaught Street.
